What is Biotechnology?

Articles about Biotechnology Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a new integrative science filed that combine new automation technologies that utilizes biological living systems, artificial organisms or parts of this to create , develop or optimize multiple different products rely to human health, food or increasing process speed in industries.

baking bread or wine fermentation knowing as examples of processes that are rely within the meaning and concept of biotechnology (use of yeast (= living organism) to produce the desired product). These traditional processes have a deep history in human life and usually utilize organisms in their natural form (or further developed by breeding), while modern form of biotechnology science and industry will generally contain more advanced modification of the biological system or organism from sets of genes to artificial organisms.

Biotechnology history started With the development of genetic engineering in the 1970s, research in biotechnology (and other related areas such as medicine, biology etc.) developed increasingly and rapidly because of the new possibility to make changes in the organisms’ genetic material (DNA) and increasing products, making more money!

Today, biotechnology science covers many different scientific fields (eg. bioinformatics, immuno-informatics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, etc.). New technologies and products are developed every year within the areas of eg. medicine (development of new medicines and therapies), agriculture (development of genetically modified plants, biofuels, biological treatment) or industrial biotechnology (production of chemicals, paper, textiles and food).
